ANNUAL NEW YEAR RETREAT
& CULTURAL TOUR IN MYANMAR

After taking a year off, we’re very pleased to be doing this special trip again, where yogis will have the unique opportunity to learn the practice of Vipassana (insight) meditation, in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw, on a ten day retreat at a retreat center in Myanmar, as well as several days visiting cultural and Buddhist spiritual sites around Myanmar with Mettagroup’s George Haas.
About the extended trip:
The group will explore Buddhist and cultural sites around Myanmar with Mettagroup founder George Haas before and after the ten days at the retreat center. Cities and sites you’ll explore include the city of Yangon, Bago, Golden Rock, Bagan, and Inle Lake. Mettagroup will arrange all air travel to and from Yangon, air and private vehicle travel within Mynamar, accommodations and tour guides.
About the retreat:
The retreat will be ten days at at the Mahasi Meditation Center in Yangon, run by the Buddha Sasana Nuggaha Organization and focused on the teaching of Mahasi Sayadaw. The grounds are beautiful and it’s one of the largest meditation centers in Myanmar with a focus on the original texts from Mahasi, so you’ll get a truly authentic experience of teachings from the Theravada Buddhist monk and meditation master.
Registration:
As is traditionally the case in Myanmar, the center offers the retreat for a small fee ($10 registration fee for a ten day stay at the center) and the teachers and staff are compensated on a dāna basis; donations will be gratefully accepted for their support.
Mettagroup will handle all travel arrangements including flights, accommodations, local travel and guides. The total cost for the entire trip is estimated to be approximately $2,000 plus whatever you spend in Myanmar; entry fees for sites and meal costs (outside the meditation center) are not included. A deposit of $300 (Mettagroup’s booking fee) is required to reserve your spot. The deadline for registration is September 15th.
